Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik announced that his state will send over 500 rescue personnel to West Bengal to assist with relief and rescue work.
Bhubaneshwar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Friday said his state will provide all possible assistance to neighbouring West Bengal for relief and rescue work in the aftermath of Cyclone Amphan.
Patnaik also spoke to Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee over the phone on Friday and offered assistance to the flood-ravaged state. He assured all possible support to West Bengal in terms of men and material to overcome this critical situation.
He later announced that his state will send over 500 rescue personnel to the state to assist with relief and rescue work.
“Cyclone Amphan is one of the worst disasters to hit West Bengal. The people of Odisha stand by West Bengal during this unprecedented crisis. Odisha has sent a team of 500 members, including 300 fire personnel & 10 ODRAF teams to assist in relief & rescue operations,.

During his discussion with Banerjee, Patnaik enquired about the loss of life and property in her state and conveyed Odisha’s solidarity in this hour of need.
Earlier, Odisha CM had directed the chief secretary to remain in touch with his West Bengal counterpart and ensure all possible assistance.
Notably, cyclone Amphan that crossed through the West Bengal and Odisha coast on Wednesday caused minimum damage to the coastal areas of Odisha while it wreaked havoc in the neighbouring state.
“GOWB mobilizes maximum strength in unified command mode on 24×7 basis for immediate restoration of essential infrastructure and services asap. Army support has been called for; NDRF and SDRF teams deployed; Railways, Port and private sector too requested to supply teams and equipment,” the state Home Department said in a statement.
As many as 86 people have so far died in the state due to the cyclone.
Mamata Banerjee calls in Army
West Bengal’s government sought the support of Indian Army to help with relief and rescue work and restore normalcy in the state after Cyclone Amphan left behind a trail of destruction.
