Access Controlled Mechatronic Locks: Vehicular IoT for Secure Transit of Goods

The Indian transportation market hinges on the secure movement of goods over vast distances. For e-commerce, import, export, and even agricultural businesses, navigating the entire country requires traversing varied regions and weather conditions, making reliable security a crucial aspect. Threats of adulteration, picking, or any unwarranted business practices make a secure locking solution mandatory. Mechanical locking solutions appear to take care of the problems. However, the reality presents a completely different picture in the long run.

Challenges:

Mechanical padlocks, steel racks, and other enclosures are commonly used for securing goods, but these measures fail to address the realities of goods transport. Locking mechanisms struggle to cope with terrain and weather conditions, leading to wear and tear. Mechanical locks are vulnerable to compromise; they can be easily picked and keys duplicated, while handling numerous padlocks and keys in a nationwide setup creates operational complexities.

A major issue is the lack of monitoring mechanisms for unauthorized access and restricted access, with common problems such as lost, broken, or jammed keys aggravating the daily challenges in-transit. PIN seals, used to secure goods, become redundant after use and incur significant operational costs. The seals can’t be reused, and their absence makes it challenging to detect small-scale goods theft, affecting business profitability.

Moving towards smarter and more holistic security means getting the secure transit of goods with maintained quality. This requires upgrading logistic setups with advanced locking mechanisms. Less than 10% of shipped containers are tracked or monitored in real-time, resulting in global losses of at least $30 billion annually due to theft, which not only causes financial losses but also damages business reputations.

To combat these issues, logistics companies are investing in robust locking solutions that integrate with vehicle tracking systems, time scheduling, and real-time authorization on a unified platform, offering operational efficiency and real-time access control from anywhere at any time.

CLIQ: Intelligent Digital Locking Solution

The Intelligent Digital Locking Solution CLIQ from ASSA ABLOY, is an intelligent locking system that uses centralized software to provide total access control during transit, accessible from multiple locations. Businesses can enhance their security infrastructure with features such as time delay, flexible key scheduling, dynamic user schedules for subcontractors, compliance reports, and predefined access rights, schedules, and authorizations.

Designed to prevent key duplication and tamper-resistant padlocks, CLIQ addresses common issues like key misplacement by allowing lost keys to be easily deactivated. Businesses can regularly update access control by deauthorizing former employees or suspicious personnel using the revalidation feature.

With CLIQ, businesses gain complete control over their goods throughout the transit journey, ensuring security and operational efficiency.
