Expert Insights on Enhancing Fire Safety in Urban Areas

  • Co-ordination required between Municipal Corporation and Public Fire Brigade (City Fire and Emergency Service) so that City Fire Brigade may aware about any construction permission in the city.
  • Construction plan shall not permitted untill application of Fire Safety Certificate. There should be provision in construction plan approval for application of Fire Safety Certificate so that owner can not escape from his accountability.
  • Unnecessary combustible and flammable material shall eliminate in construction.
  • Mandatory one Fire Safety Officer for Cluster of Buildings, Gaming Zone, Hospitals, Hotels & Restaurants, Pandals etc. Also monthly submission of Fire Safety observation as well as compliannce report online to RFO (Regional Fire Officer.
  • Monthly submissuon of Fire Safety System and Equipment inspection, testing and maintenance report to RFO online.
  • Eliminate large storage of flammable Gases & Liquid and combustible Solids within the premises. There should be seperate storage facility which is not connected to occupancy facility.
  • Surprise verification of facilities by RFO and/or Fire Staff without prior notice to confirm availability and operability Fire Safety System and Equipment.
  • Mock Drill/ Evacuation Drill in various premises to confirm emergency preparedness.
  • Check adequate no. of Emergency Exits.
  • Use of electrical tripping system in case of short- circuit.
  • Surprise inspection of buildings/ pandals etc. by City Fire and Emergency Services for confirmation of healthiness of Fire & Safety System and Equipment.
  • No permission for residence or activity during partial construction/ fabrication/ Hot-work.
  • Implementation of countermeasures in entire BHARAT for incident occurred and verification.
  • Strict action on owner who does not have Fire Safety Certificate.
  • Strict action on owner who does not comply Fire Safety norms.

These are my suggestions to prevent fire in the city.
