Fire Hydrant Color Coding – A Critical Life-Saving Detail!!

Fire hydrants are more than just #red #pillars on the roadside they communicate vital water supply information to firefighters during emergencies.

As per #NFPA 291 (Fire Flow Testing & Marking of Hydrants) the bonnet and outlet caps of hydrants are color-coded to indicate the available fire flow:

  • Red – Less than 500 GPM (Poor).
  • Orange – 500–999 GPM (Fair).
  • Green – 1000–1499 GPM (Good).
  • Blue – 1500+ GPM (Excellent).

This system allows #fire #crews to instantly identify the hydrant’s capacity and select the best water source saving #precious time and protecting lives, assets and operations.

In industrial facilities, construction sites and cities, proper hydrant marking is not just a standard it is a safety commitment.

Let’s ensure our fire protection systems are not only installed but correctly identified and maintained.
