INTERSCHUTZ 2026 Strengthens Its Position as the World’s Leading Platform for Firefighting, Rescue Services and Civil Protection

Hannover, Germany: INTERSCHUTZ 2026 has once again demonstrated why it remains the world’s most influential exhibition for firefighting, rescue services, civil protection, emergency response, and disaster management. Held from 1 to 6 June 2026 in Hanover, Germany, the event attracted approximately 140,000 visitors from 144 countries and brought together 1,772 exhibitors representing 55 nations across 120,000 square metres of exhibition space.

The exceptional international participation reinforced the exhibition’s growing role as a global platform for innovation, collaboration, and strategic dialogue among emergency response professionals, government authorities, technology developers, manufacturers, and civil protection organizations. The significant increase in international visitors—from 13 percent in 2015 to 24 percent in 2026—reflects the rising global importance of resilience, disaster preparedness, and public safety in an era increasingly challenged by climate change, natural disasters, urban risks, geopolitical uncertainties, and emerging hybrid threats.

According to Dr. Jochen Köckler, Chairman of the Managing Board of Deutsche Messe AG, the growing prominence of fire services, rescue organizations, and civil protection agencies worldwide has elevated INTERSCHUTZ into a critical platform where the future of emergency response is actively being shaped. Under the guiding theme “Safeguarding Tomorrow,” the exhibition highlighted the technologies, strategies, partnerships, and operational concepts necessary to build more resilient societies.

A defining characteristic of INTERSCHUTZ 2026 was its expanded focus on civil protection. The exhibition showcased how governments, municipalities, emergency agencies, military organizations, and private-sector stakeholders must work together to strengthen preparedness against increasingly complex threats. This year’s edition witnessed unprecedented interest in civil-military cooperation, emergency planning frameworks, crisis management systems, and critical infrastructure protection.

Among the notable highlights were presentations on Germany’s “Operationsplan Deutschland,” which emphasized the importance of coordinated national resilience planning. The introduction of innovative modular bunker systems further demonstrated the growing emphasis being placed on preparedness for large-scale emergencies, disasters, and security-related contingencies.

The exhibition floor reflected the remarkable pace of technological advancement taking place across the emergency response sector. Manufacturers unveiled next-generation firefighting vehicles, advanced rescue equipment, intelligent command-and-control systems, state-of-the-art personal protective equipment, and digital communication platforms designed to improve operational effectiveness and responder safety.

Artificial Intelligence and digital transformation emerged as dominant themes throughout the event. Advanced emergency control room technologies capable of analysing emergency calls in multiple languages, generating automated situational assessments, and optimizing resource deployment showcased how AI is rapidly becoming an indispensable tool for modern emergency management. Robotics, autonomous systems, drones, and data-driven operational platforms further illustrated the sector’s commitment to leveraging technology for enhanced situational awareness and faster decision-making.

Climate resilience and wildfire management also received significant attention through the launch of the WildfireCamp initiative. The dedicated platform highlighted technologies and methodologies aimed at early wildfire detection, vegetation fire prevention, predictive risk assessment, and coordinated suppression strategies. As climate-related disasters continue to increase globally, such solutions are becoming essential components of national resilience strategies.

Another major attraction was the German Red Cross’s 3,000-square-metre mobile field hospital, which demonstrated the growing capabilities of rapid medical response and disaster healthcare infrastructure. The exhibit attracted considerable interest from emergency planners, healthcare providers, humanitarian organizations, and government agencies seeking scalable emergency medical solutions.

Industry leaders expressed strong confidence in the future of the sector. The high level of engagement between manufacturers, emergency responders, municipal decision-makers, and operational users reinforced INTERSCHUTZ’s unique role as a marketplace where innovation is directly aligned with practical operational requirements. The exhibition once again provided an unmatched environment for knowledge exchange, networking, product demonstrations, and collaborative problem-solving.

The participation of institutional partners, including the German Fire Services Association (DFV), the vfdb, and the VDMA Firefighting Technology Association, further strengthened the event’s position as the leading international gathering for the global emergency response community.

Kings Expomedia Ltd., publisher of Fire & Safety Magazine, proudly participated in INTERSCHUTZ 2026 as an International Media Partner. Through its dedicated coverage of fire protection, industrial safety, homeland security, rescue management, and emergency response sectors, Fire & Safety Magazine contributed to promoting international knowledge sharing and highlighting technological advancements showcased at the event. The participation reflects the publication’s continued commitment to connecting global industry leaders, technology providers, emergency responders, policymakers, and safety professionals through meaningful industry engagement and knowledge dissemination.

While INTERSCHUTZ 2026 celebrated innovation, collaboration, and operational excellence, the event was also marked by a moment of sadness following the passing of a professional firefighter during the FireFit Championships Europe. The global emergency response community joined together in paying tribute to a fellow responder whose dedication embodied the spirit of service represented throughout the exhibition.

As the event concluded, one message emerged with remarkable clarity: resilience is no longer a future objective but a present necessity. The technologies, partnerships, and ideas presented throughout INTERSCHUTZ 2026 demonstrated that the global emergency response community is actively preparing for the challenges of tomorrow.

The next edition of INTERSCHUTZ will be held from 20 to 25 May 2030 in Hanover, Germany, where the world’s firefighting, rescue, and civil protection professionals will once again gather to shape the future of safety, resilience, and emergency preparedness.
