MeitY Amendment to CRO for CCTV Ensures ‘Essential Security Parameters’ for all CCTV Cameras Manufactured / Imported / Sold in India

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India, has issued a crucial notification dated

April 9, 2024, regarding the Compulsory Registration Order (CRO) for Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras to be sold in India. This notification introduces amendments to the CRO order, making it mandatory to test the ‘essential security parameters’ of CCTV cameras. The order will come into effect from October 9, 2024, providing the industry with ample time to prepare. Additionally, it mandates the submission of test reports from Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) recognized labs such as STQC.

The government’s decision ensures that all CCTV cameras deployed in India are free from any national security concerns. It guarantees that the major components of CCTV/video surveillance systems are sourced from reliable and trusted manufacturers.

Earlier, on March 6, 2024, MeitY issued a notification for the Public Procurement of CCTV, emphasizing the essential testing of critical security parameters and providing details for Local Content (LC) calculations.

Sanjeev Sehgal, MD & Founder of Sparsh CCTV, expressed his enthusiasm regarding the recent amendment to the CRO for CCTV surveillance by MeitY. He stated, “As an ardent believer in India’s technological supremacy and a pioneer in the Indian video surveillance industry, I wholeheartedly welcome the recent amendment made to the CRO for CCTV surveillance by MeitY. This will add an additional layer of security and safety against potential cyberattacks and unauthorized access at a national level. It sets a standard for cybersecurity and protects the privacy and integrity of customers at large. This move, along with the recent Public Procurement Order (PPO) announced for the video surveillance industry, will be a game-changer, empowering Indian players to achieve new heights of growth and further strengthen the Made-in-India initiative. Sparsh CCTV is the only Made-in-India brand offering a full range of STQC certified and PPO compliant products based on American chipset in the world.”
