Lakeland industries invest US$5.9M in protective clothing manufacture in New Delhi.

US based global manufacturer of a broad range of high quality protective clothing including garments for protection against chemicals, flame and heat, Lakeland Industries are embarking on a major investment in their New Delhi facility for expansion of limited life clothing production. Attendance at the first international A+A safety show in New Delhi will mark the launch of the new capacity.

With manufacturing and sales personnel in nineteen countries servicing customers in some fifty-four countries Lakeland is a major player in the global PPE industry. Already producing a range of disposable coveralls for the US market, the New Delhi facility is to undergo a major expansion aimed at increasing capacity and establishing production of quality protective clothing for the Indian market and for export to existing markets in Asia, Latin America, Europe and the US.

“The Indian market is one of the fastest growing in the world. The petrochemical industry especially is developing at a tremendous rate” commented Charlie Roberson, Vice-President of International Sales. “With this investment we are sending a message to safety managers throughout India that we want to be part of that growth and contribute to the increasing focus on improved worker safety. Workers in India will soon be able to wear high quality CE certified protective clothing made in India by a globally recognised manufacturer – and not by an unseen contractor in another country. Lakeland manufactures its products in its own, wholly owned factories – and India will be no exception”.

As with all Lakeland manufacturing facilities the factory in Delhi will be fully ISO 9001 certified and have CE Article 11B certification under European PPE regulations. CE certification is an exacting system of protective equipment standards developed and required in the European Union and increasingly specified by safety professionals globally. Lakeland’s new India-made Type 5 and 6 protective coveralls will be fully certified to relevant CE standards by international certification body SATRA Certification Services.

To launch the new products Lakeland will attend the first A+A safety Show in New Delhi on 15th – 17th March 2017.

“Our investment in Indian manufacturing and attendance at India’s inaugural A+A show is evidence of Lakeland’s recognition of the growing importance of India as both a customer and a supplier to the world” added Mr Roberson. “As regular exhibitors at both the European and Asian A+A shows, we want to be part of it from the beginning and invite users and selectors of protective clothing alike to our stand in Delhi to discuss how Lakeland expertise – and our new manufacturing expansion – can assist in improving worker safety throughout the sub-continent”.
